Hours

Monday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for research assistance, reading rooms open from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Holdings

The National Archives holds census records, vital records, land records, estate records, military records and immigration records.

First-time researchers must visit during regular office hours to obtain a research pass.
Through the mail

The National Archives does have an interlibrary loan program. Patrons may borrow up to six reels at once for a period of six weeks. Check with your local libraries to see if they are part of this program. The following books list microfilm that is available through interlibrary loan:

  • A Catalog of Census Returns on Microfilm, 1661-1891, by Thomas A. Hillman
  • Passenger Lists and Border Entry Lists in PAC RG 76, Records of the Immigration Branch
  • Checklist of Parish Registers, 1986, by Marielle Campeau and Patricia Birkett
